Sources for Projects
Here are some good options. If you find one to share, that would be great!
Popular Mechanics
A GREAT source for your research project. Popular Mechanics was very widely-read in the 1950s. There are great ads, interesting covers art, and articles on how to build things all by yourself. There are also nice articles that speculate about the world of the future. All in the same, nice, Googlebooks searchable archive as LIFE.
Good for projects on leisure time, home ownership, decor, and much more!
Get it here.
You can also check out Popular Science here

Sports Illustrated Covers
The covers of many magazines are available, such as Sports Illustrated. Find them here.
If you can think of a magazine that has been publishing for many years, hunt around to see if you can find an archive of its covers, or maybe, like LIFE, it will be in Google Books. https://observer.com/2009/11/google-books-wacky-magazine-archives/

Movie Posters
You could also pick a specific film studio (in this case Hammer Films who were known for horror movies) and find all the posters from the films they made in the 1950s. (Just be careful to get the original posters, not the cover of the VHS rerelease!)
The Navy
Great Archive of an American Navy Magazine
If you are interested in technology or the navy this is a great archive of a magazine called All Hands. Get it here https://allhands.navy.mil/Media/Archives/1950s#/Default.aspx?id=18801

Yearbooks
Lots of institutions have digitized their yearbooks. Here are McGill's. The MacDonald campus had its own year book so you could even find pictures with John Abbott buildings in them!
